Job Summary: The Research Professional should show a high level of achievement and impact as appropriate for the position’s duties, as well as recognition of professional excellence by peers. Assumes full responsibility for overall support of research activities. Directs and mentors others in research practices. Contributes to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications. Independently designs, conducts, and reports on research activities. Must demonstrate clear potential to pursue external funding as principle investigator and/or Co-PI or Co-I, leading or co-leading contribution to the dissemination of findings or knowledge, including, but not limited to, public access such as on-line and through exhibits, peer-reviewed reports and publications, and presentation at meetings. Successful candidates are expected to develop and sustain sponsored research programs and seek and obtain external funding to partially support the specific research program within the College.
This is a research position within the Center for Complex Hydrosystems Research (CCHR) and the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama. This position is expected to conduct research with Prof. Moradkhani and other faculty members on a variety of projects, and will lead the flood modeling, inundation mapping, peer-reviewed publications, data management, proposal preparation and student co-supervision for the CCHR. This position is a non-tenure earning staff position.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering or closely related field and some postdoctoral research experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Must have effective communication skills and the ability to develop and sustain a high quality externally funded research program. Expertise in coding in Python, R, Matlab; high performance computing, hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, advanced statistical modeling, machine learning and remote sensing.
Preferred Qualifications: Proven record in writing successful research proposals, and demonstrated ability of working in a multidisciplinary environment.
