Position Summary | The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term by term basis for the 2021-2022 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Department Head. The mission of the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics is to teach and to pursue research in biochemistry, structural biology, cell biology, and biophysics. Teaching is provided at undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels. The department offers courses of study leading to BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The faculty teaches in the biochemistry and biophysics courses, and participates in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Program, Biology Program and Molecular Toxicology. Service teaching for degrees outside the department is also provided for students in Science, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary medicine, Forestry, Oceanography, and Liberal Arts. Research in Biochemistry and biophysics and related fields is pursued by faculty in the department: this research entails funding of over $3,000,000 per year from the federal government and various foundations. The department participates in the activities that Environmental health Sciences Center, the Gene Research and Biotechnology Center, and the Marine Freshwater Biomedical Science Center; and the interdepartmental graduate programs in Toxicology, Genetics, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. The College of Science provides a core instructional role at OSU, supporting the ideals of learning, discovery, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university. Position Duties | 100% Instruction: This position will teach lecture and laboratory courses in undergraduate and graduate areas during Fall, Winter and Spring terms. Instruction in the following areas maybe needed: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. |
Minimum/Required Qualifications | M.S. in Biochemistry or a closely related field. Biochemistry Lab experience. Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of biochemistry laboratory equipment. Knowledge of basic laboratory safety and appropriate use of facilities. Teaching experience at the college or university level. An evident commitment to educational equity. |
Preferred (Special) Qualifications | Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field. Knowledge of and experience with modern molecular biological computer software. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. |
