Job Summary:
Directs the daily financial and administrative operations of the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) and the Office of the Strategic Industry Ventures (SIV). Directs & oversees, in collaboration with departmental leadership, the financial & administrative operations of multiple complex organizational units reporting to the VPR, including Lab Animal Resources (LAR); Institutional Core Facilities (ICF); Research Protection Offices (IRB/IACP/OCR/COI); Clinical Trials Office (CTO); and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) as well as the Office of Technology Commercialization that reports to the Office of Strategic Industries Ventures. Responsible for the design, execution, effectiveness, and oversight of internal financial controls, which provides reasonable assurance that VPR and SIV financial operations are practical and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, departmental financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Job Duties:
Provides direction and oversight of the unit's operations, in conjunction with the unit's Director/Chair, related to administrative, financial, operational, and strategic management areas.
Develops, communicates, and manages productivity standards, goals, and expectations for staff with the Director/Chair.
Represents the department head and the department or unit in activities within the University, with affiliated institutions, and in state and national organizations.
Manages fiscal and accounting activities, including budget preparation, budgetary reports, requisitions, and account management.
Acts as a liaison between the offices of the Dean, institutional offices, departments, and affiliates.
Directs the preparation of grants and contracts and ensures compliance with institution funding sources and federal guidelines and regulations.
Assists the Chair in analyzing recent programs and establishing strategic goals and procedures.
Implements programs and activities through the established departmental policies and procedures.
Manages and supervises human resources activities for faculty and staff (i.e., recruitment, compensation adjustments, disciplinary actions, measuring performance, etc.) or for the department or unit.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
- A Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or Business Administration, Finance, or a directly related field is required.
Experience:
- Seven (7) years of accounting, finance, or related business experience are required. Experience within higher education or research administration environment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to arrive at accurate conclusions and solutions by visualizing new potentials and identifying, defining, and analyzing problems and situations using rational and intuitive processes.
- Must be able to attract and mobilize energies and talents; to work towards a shared purpose in the best interests of the organization.
- Ability to coordinate the diverse components of the project by quality project planning, execution and change control to achieve required balance of time, cost and quality.

Supervisory Requirements:
- Five (5) years of supervisory experience is required.
- Has the authority to direct the work of others, hire or fire employees, or provide recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of another employee.
