Postdoctoral Scholar Genetics, Genomics & Informatics Department of Genetics, Genomics & Bioinformatics We are looking for a bioinformatics postdoctoral scholar to conduct research on state-of-the-art genetics data science and pangenomics with the Gene Network group under the supervision of Dr. Prins. Are you skilled in computer science with an affinity for genetics and genomics? Then this may be the right position for you. Our comparative genomics team develops data structures and algorithms to analyze large amounts of genomics data simultaneously to gain insight into genome organization, function, and evolution. In many areas of the life sciences, there is a clear need for pangenomic data organization and analysis. The goal will be to create improved pangenome-driven genotyping in mouse and rat species and creating a pangenome usable for genome-wide association studies with translational application in human studies. We will explore graph memory representations of DNA and RNA sequencing and combine that with metadata in RDF. In addition, starting from pangenome-based genotyping, we are working on software for linear mixed model genome-wide associations, privacy protection through homomorphic encryption, and trusted computing. The researcher will be part of a wider team of software developers active in genetics, genomics, and pangenome software development with a focus on genotyping, genetics, data science, and working on our web-hosted framework 'genenetwork.org'.
Description
Requirements: Candidates who have a strong track record in free software development and community engagement are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should submit their Curriculum Vitae with public git repository, three letters of reference, and a summary of research interests and plans. Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and is competitive for postdoctoral fellows. The position includes an excellent benefits package (http://www.uthsc.edu/postdoc/benefits.php ). Located in Memphis, a dynamic Mid-South city rich in culture, history, diversity, music and cuisine, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is one of the largest, most comprehensive academic health centers in the United States with a solid commitment to postdoctoral training.
