Class Description

The purpose of this class is to work with STEM Core participants at CCBC to promote student success by providing intensive student support services and designing and facilitating workshops, speakers, program events, and other high-impact activities. This is a grant funded position that is located on the Catonsville and Essex Campuses.
Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field. Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, Higher Education, Counseling or related field of study, Master's degree preferred. Two years of successful experience working with collegiate-level programs fostering retention or achievement is required. Experience providing instruction, advising, academic support services, and/or career counseling in a college setting is required. Experience advising or providing other support services to college students studying in STEM related fields is preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Serve as point of contact for students in the STEM Core program.
  2. Coordinate a functional process for multiple STEM Core grants.
  3. Implement strategies related to STEM Core operations and services.
  4. Prepare, analyze, provide and maintain reports on STEM Core activities and outcomes as requested.
  5. Maintain grant related files, as required.
  6. Conduct and attend meetings, as required.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Provide wraparound student support services to STEM Core participants including, but not limited to, developing successful study habits, communicating and working with faculty, attaining work experience, transfer preparation, financial aid assistance, and referrals to on- and off-campus services as needed.
  2. Work with faculty and project partners to deliver high-quality and engaging program orientations each semester in order to build cohort community, introduce faculty and partners, and implement study skill development.
  3. Attend class sessions in order to monitor student attendance, course content, student achievement, and maintain an understanding in order to liaise with program tutors.
  4. Coordinate math tutoring sessions and keep tutor notified of current concepts covered in class and specific individuals needing additional assistance.
  5. Meet with STEM Core participants individually once per month to assess progress, relay information from professors, make necessary referrals, etc.
  6. Organize and facilitate Study Skills workshops as needed covering topics such as, but not limited to, Time Management, Stress Reduction at School, etc.
  7. Create and distribute all program marketing materials including fliers, applications, etc.
  8. Assist STEM Core project coordinators in securing internships for STEM Core participants.
  9. Communicate and share program information with CCBC's STEM Core partner colleges.
