Utah Valley University, located in Orem, Utah, seeks an Assistant Professor – Philosophy. Duties: Teach 4 courses per semester (8 per year) in the undergraduate philosophy program at the upper and lower division, including, but not limited to Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics and Values, Environmental Ethics, Environmental Aesthetics. Teach environmental philosophy from a diversity of cultural and theoretical perspectives. Instruction could include internet and evening courses. Direct the Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies minor by scheduling courses, working with faculty across campus and updating curriculum. Engages in scholarly activities including research and produces scholarly work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department. Engage in university service including but not limited to, developing and assessing program curriculum.

Required Qualifications

Requirements: PhD in Philosophy or related degree from an accredited institution. ABD accepted. Foreign equivalent degree accepted. Demonstrable ability to teach a variety of University/College undergraduate philosophy courses including, but not limited to, the courses listed above. Demonstrable knowledge in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Demonstrable evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work in philosophy, consistent with a teaching university as shown through conference presentations and/or scholarly publications. Record of effective teaching and student learning. The required qualifications include the demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge: Demonstrable knowledge of and demonstrated competence in teaching Environmental Philosophy.
Skills: Demonstrable skill in developing courses in Environmental Philosophy and other areas of Philosophy. Demonstrable skill in facilitating lectures and seminars.
Abilities: Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group. Demonstrable ability to work independently.
