Overview: NVI seeks to fill a senior development position, critical to advance its mission to build a culture of nonviolence and to become a renowned center of excellence for nonviolence training and practice. NVI’s goal is to prevent violence, especially youth gang violence. NVI immediately intervenes in violent situations and works with youth to introduce nonviolence as an alternative. NVI provides a continuum of care for clients and families to educate, sustain, console, and celebrate along their journey to a nonviolent lifestyle.

 

Position Description: The Director will lead fundraising strategic and administrative initiatives. One will oversee the planning and execution of major and annual gift fundraising and will assess fundraising success against goals. One will partner with the Executive Director and Board to create a fundraising plan and strategies to increase philanthropy.

 

Major and Planned Giving Strategy and Management

 

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects

  • Cultivate and solicit, in conjunction with Executive Director and Board, major donors and deepen relationships with current donors

  • Partner with Executive Director and Board so they are effectively deployed in high-potential cultivation and solicitation opportunities

  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Board to ensure fundraising initiatives enable NVI to realize its mission, fund operations and deliver critical programs

  • Proactively identify new donors and recommend outreach strategies to Executive Director and Board

 

Annual Giving Strategy and Management

 

  • Develop strategy and schedule of communications and events to increase NVI’s annual giving revenue and build a robust donor pipeline

  • Design and execute donor communications including direct mail, annual appeal, e-appeals, newsletters, and thank you letters

  • Manage donor database and conduct data entry related to individual giving activities and donor relationships

 

Grants

 

  • Manage grant consultant and write grant applications as needed

  • Oversee the research and preparation for corporate, foundation and public grants

 

Board Engagement

 

  • Support an active Board and Development Committee and attend Board and Committee meetings

  • Collaborate with Board and Development Committee Chairpersons to set fundraising goals and ensure productive and engaging meetings

 

Partnerships

 

  • Explore partnerships with corporations, educational and health institutions and

community organizations and represent NVI at meetings and donor events

  • Explore internship opportunities and supervise interns and VISTA volunteers

 

Events Strategy and Management

 

  • Guide strategy and fundraising efforts related to Invest in Peace and Play for Peace

annual events

  • Oversee special events calendar, event budget, logistics, sponsorship and donation solicitations and print materials

  • Oversee event planner

 

Communications

 

  • In partnership with others develop annual communications and marketing strategies and

goals; including website, social media, print materials and press announcements

 

Requirements and Personal Capabilities:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of fundraising experience with a nonprofit or educational institution

  • Track record in increased acquisition and retention of individual donors, soliciting major gifts and current knowledge of RI philanthropic community

  • Experience accessing and working with donor databases and event planning

  • Knowledge and experience with fundraising best practices

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong, positive and effective working relationships with staff, board, donors, community and partners

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong planning skills with high attention to detail

  • Resilient, creative, motivated, positive, respects others, self-aware and of the highest professional integrity

  • Passion for the mission and the population served

  • Ability to work collaboratively and to manage in a diverse organization with staff who have various levels of skills

  • Entrepreneurial by nature, self-starter, enjoys building new individual and corporate relationships

  • Available to attend evening and weekend meetings

  • Experience with MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Outlook, Gmail, Constant Contact, Event Brite and Raiser’s Edge required
