HJF is seeking an Innovation Specialist to provide professional and programmatic assistance pertaining to Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Partnerships and Innovations Directorate's (DPAA) innovation portfolio, as a member of the Partnerships and Innovations (PI) Directorate.

 


The DPAA is the US Department of Defense Agency responsible for the recovery and identification of fallen US service members from WWII to the gulf war. Its mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting of missing personnel to their families and the nation. To accomplish this, the DPAA sends out organic and partner investigation and recovery missions worldwide, and recovered material is analyzed in the state-of-the-art DPAA laboratory. DPAA expands its recovery and identification capacity and capabilities through various innovation initiatives, and partners with research and academic institutes to address research requirements.

 


The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Play a central role in the administration of innovation programming, to include arranging and monitoring communications (calls, meetings, travel) and facilitating the flow of information using analogue and digital channels.
  • Maintain interdisciplinary and technical proficiency to effectively communicate and network in trending areas for innovation.
  • Maintain a database of external funding opportunities, announce upcoming deadlines, and coordinate DPAA/partner submissions.
  • Maintain and scale the proposal process (internal and external) for innovation ideation.
  • Plan annual DPAA innovation workshop(s), and serve as coordinator for logistics and administrative requirements for other events such as symposiums, technology accelerators, etc. and produce and coordinate innovation outreach products or opportunities for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Disseminate and coordinate partner guiding documents, primarily but not limited to the establishment and maintenance of innovation studies
  • Perform routine professional coordination with partners, tracking current initiatives, pending proposals, etc.
  • Maintain stewardship of developing and active partnerships to include coordination for study communications throughout execution and partner recognition.
  • Perform routine internal coordination with non-Partnerships and Innovations personnel and other DPAA elements, as required, to ensure shared understanding of partner innovation efforts.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Forensic Science, or related field. Masters Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required
 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with Salesforce (cloud-based computing software to track/monitor partner activity).
  • Ability to learn new software and incorporate its use into daily work functions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, time management, attention to detail and customer service skills.
 
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

 


Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
